EEE department conducts community outreach campaign on Electrical Safety

A week-long electrical safety awareness program has been recently organized by the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Technology, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) from 9 to 16 May 2022. The main objective of the program was to highlight the necessity and importance of electrical safety and its regular practice in all aspects of life to prevent accidents and hazards resulting from a lack of awareness. The event kicked off on 9 May with an outreach campaign on the premises of Hatuwapara Manasa Mandir in the local Hatuwapara village of Azara to sensitize people toward safety norms. Dr. Shakuntala Laksar along with Dr. Bikramjit Goswami, Jesif Ahmed and Nomal Ch. Nath from the EEE department spoke on various vital key aspects like - electric shock, earthing, precautionary measures, fire extinguishers, inverters and other electrical appliances, etc. Dr. Shantanu Dutta accompanied the organizing team as a medical practitioner who spoke and demonstrated the details of CPR and emergency response. The president of the mandir management committee - Advocate Satyanarayan Nath and Secretary – Mr. Purna Ram Das were also present among the participants. The program registered a high number of woman participants from the village.

In a flood-prone and high stormy state like Assam, electrical hazards are something that the average person encounters almost now and then but has less experience and skill to deal with, which is why it is critical that they are given at least the basic electrical safety guidelines for strict adherence to operational guidelines so they know how to avoid accidents or injuries resulting in loss of lives and material. The outreach drive is expected to benefit the people by sensitizing them to the fact that electricity is a great friend as well as a deadly enemy to humans if not careful.
