EEE Department holds Industrial Talk on Substation Automation System (SAS)



The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the School of Technology, Assam Don Bosco University organized an Industrial talk online on "Substation Automation Systems" by professional expert on December 1, 2021, to bridge the industry-academia gap of the studets and to make them industry-ready as soon they enter the professional life. A total of 66 participants of B.Tech, M.Tech along with the faculty members of the department attended the session. Ms. Plabita Kalita, Assistant Manager in the Assam Electricity Grid Co. Ltd. (AEGCL), who is also an alumnus of the dept. (2014 BTech Graduate) was the resource person of the programme.

Ms. Kalita started off with a brief introduction to the Substation Automation System (SAS), which is a collection of hardware and software components that are used to monitor and control an electrical system, both locally and remotely. SAS uses high-speed microprocessor-based computers and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). She explained the various functions of SAS, such as monitoring, recording, protection, etc. Furthermore, Ms. Kalita also elaborated briefly on the SAS- architecture structure, which includes three levels as the station, bay, and process-level functions. The speaker ended her talk by mentioning the economic advantages of using SAS in an electrical system. The program concluded with an interactive session with the students and a vote of thanks by Dr. Bikramjit Goswami, Senior Assistant Professor of the department.
