Department of EEE organizes WAR 2016- Workshop on Arduino and Raspberry pi

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), School of Technology (SOT), Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) organized WAR-2016, a two-day Workshop on Arduino and Raspberry Pi, on 20th -21st August 2016. A total of 48 participants attended the workshop.

The workshop started with inauguration of the event by the Chief Guest- Prof. Pradip Kumar Goswami, HoD-Electrical Engineering Department, Girijananda Choudhury Institute of Management and Technology, Guwahati, and other dignitaries form ADBU- Fr. Francis Fernandez, Controller of Examination, ADBU, Prof. Manoranjan Kalita, Director of SoT, ADBU and Prof. Basil Koikara, Registrar, ADBU, Prof. Shakuntala Laskar, HoD- EEE Department, SoT, ADBU and faculty & staff members of EEE department.

Prof. Shakuntala addressed the gathering with inspirational words and highlighted the objectives of the workshop for creating an environment to explore beyond the academic syllabus with the use of Arduino and Raspberry Pi, which would help the students to try different types of engineering projects. Prof. Pradip Kumar Goswami briefed with an introduction to Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Further, The Director of SoT and the Registrar urged the students to get involved with this type of workshop. “This workshop is an option for the participants to extend their knowledge beyond the curriculum and implement their innovative ideas in practice”, Prof. Manoranjan Kalita added. It is worthwhile to mention that Arduino is an open-source microntroller and software based platform and Arduino language is merely a set of C/C++ functions, while Raspberry Pi is a micro-computer, where different type projects can be implemented and it offers a choice of programming languages- Python, C, C++, Java, Scratch, and Ruby all come installed by default on the Raspberry Pi. These embedded systems require less operating time, compact in size and have high efficiency.

Mr. Jyoti Kumar Barman (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE) and Mr. Gitu Das (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE), were the resource persons of the workshop, and conducted the sessions successfully in a very interactive and beneficial manner for the participants.

The workshop ended with a formal valedictory session on 21st August. Certificates were awarded to the participants by Fr. Joseph Nellanath, Pro Vice Chancellor, ADBU and Fr. Francis Fernandez, CoE, ADBU. The Pro VC appreciated the participants, resource persons & faculties of the department and encouraged them to hold this type of workshop again in future. The CoE congratulated the students as well as resource persons on successful completion of the workshop and appealed the participants to apply the knowledge gathered towards shaping their innovative ideas.
