Swabalamban-2015, organized by Assam Don Bosco University, came to an end when its valedictory function was held on 3.12.2015. In this workshop, free training on house wiring, inverter making and installation were imparted to the local youths jointly by the departments of EEE, ECE and Social Works. The training program, with a successful participation of ten boys and girls from different places, was conducted from 23rd November to 3rd December 2015, in continuation with a similar program called Swabalamban-2014 held in December 2014.
In this concluding ceremony, Dr. Sunandan Baruah, HoD of ECE department presented the summary of the event. He also mentioned about future plans and courses to be undertaken in the next extension of Swabalamban. He further conveyed his thanks to the sponsor of the event, the Oakokho group.
The Director, School of Technology, ADBU, Dr. Manoranjan Kalita, in his speech mentioned that as the organizers count on quality not quantity, hence participation was limited this time. He also expressed his hope that on the basis of this training the participants would progress in future and would earn respectful independent livelihoods. He further requested the participants to feel free to ask any kind of help as the University would always be there for guidance and help.
Mr. Gulam Mohammad Muktadeer, BDO of Rani Block, Guwahati, although could not make it to the function, in his message to the ceremony, praised the event and thanked ADBU for the initiative.
Mr. Prabin Medhi, Panchayat President of Azara was also present in the ceremony. It was indeed a reward to the organizers when he mentioned that all the participants of last year's Swabalamban-2014 got employed after the training. In his vote in thanks to ADBU, he also mentioned that the University has indeed raised the standard of education as well as the overall environment of Azara locality.
The Vice Chancellor of ADBU, Dr. Stephen Mavely congratulated the participants and acknowledged that it's a good way to reach and help the locality .
In their feedback, all the participants thanked the trainers as well as ADBU and Oakokho.
The ceremony was also attended by the President of Oakokho group, Mr. Chiranjit Bordoloi via Skype, where he presented an overview of Oakokho's activities and services towards Assamese culture and literature through their website www.oakokho.com. In his online presentation, Mr. Bordoloi briefly elaborated about the importance of house wiring , inverter making and utilization of energy sources. He also expressed his willingness to be a part of such endeavors in future. Is is noteworthy to mention that the ceremony was attended by his mother Mrs. Swarnalata Bordoloi on his behalf.
Dr. Riju Sharma, Director of DBIHSS, ADBU concluded the function with a vote of thanks to the participants, trainers, HODs of EEE and ECE, and the Vice Chancellor.
Certificates, inverters made by the participants themselves and free kits consisting of soldering rods, multimeters and solar panels were distributed to all the participants on their successful completion of the training.
Training girls along with boys with such program is indeed a real aid to the women empowerment and it is an initiative to prepare skilled human resources towards Government's Make-in-India dream.
